goo goo dolls are go Before There Was Gaga, There Was Goo Goo (Dolls!)

After four years of life on Earth without a proper studio release from the [lastfm]Goo Goo Dolls[/lastfm], the New York band will present the new record “Something For the Rest of Us” on August 31. [lastfm]Johnny Rzeznik[/lastfm] and fellow Goo Goos meant to release their 9th album this past January, but in the band’s opinion, it wasn’t done. It takes a lot of guts gang, to keep your baby in the womb for longer than necessary.

According to the site Music News, the new album will feature production assistance from the likes of [lastfm]Butch Vig[/lastfm] ([lastfm]Nirvana[/lastfm], [lastfm]Foo Fighters[/lastfm], [lastfm]Green Day[/lastfm]) as well as British producer [lastfm]Tim Palmer[/lastfm] ([lastfm]U2[/lastfm]) and [lastfm]John Fields[/lastfm] ([lastfm]Jimmy Eat World[/lastfm]/[lastfm]Jonas Brothers[/lastfm]).

According to Rzeznik, the tracks on ‘Something For The Rest Of Us’ reflect the troubled times of the last few years, drawing on the uncertain, economic climate as a thematic backdrop:

“I wanted some of the material on this album to address the disillusionment of the difficult period we live in; I wanted to give a voice to the emotional uncertainty that accompanies hard times,’ said singer Johhny Rzeznik.

“So many people are struggling to keep it together through tough economic conditions and two wars that seem to have no end in sight. The ones who bear the brunt of these burdens are everyday people. That’s who I want to speak to.”

The Goo Goo Dolls are currently on the road through the end of August with tour dates available at the band’s site.
