When he got an invite to Rush Limbaugh‘s wedding, Elton John and his partner David Furnish were a “little surprised” and doubtful of the invite’s authenticity. But according to Furnish, John quickly looked at the positive potential within the invitation: “When it turned out to be a genuinely sincere invitation … Elton said, “Life is about building bridges, not walls.”

John perceived the offer as a glimmer of hope, an opportunity “to go where people wouldn’t expect me to go. And maybe if I can make a great impression,” Furnish quoted him as saying, “people might change their perspectives on life.”

We think that even if the act was not completely selfless and charitable on Rush Limbaugh’s part (or Elton John’s for that matter), the fact that two opposing forces could come together at such an important time and express their mutual understanding that celebrating love is beautiful and if it isn’t beautiful, it’s at least worth spending a million dollars to get your favorite aging rockstar to perform at your wedding.
