pacman 3 D Pac Man: Because Flat Stuff Is So 80s

In what sounds like an effort to appeal to the undervalued Generation X stoner demographic, former CEO of Marvel Studios and now executive adviser for Namco Bandai Avi Arad wants to bring Pac-Man to television…in 3-D.

If you ever had a nerdcore crush on Ms. Pacman (don’t deny it, she had nice lips), click more to see how you can get that little ball of fun in your bedroom!

Avi Arad was smart enough to want to create a TV show and not a movie, considering the amount of intoxicants that will probably be consumed before viewing. Gaming geeks at this weekend’s E3 conference were ready to whip out their joysticks when they heard about the Pac-Man resurgence and were equally overjoyed when they found out through a 3-minute teaser that they could enjoy the little yellow dude hands-free.

But Arad doesn’t just want to appeal to babies from the 1980’s. He wants Pac-Man to be a multi-generational, fruit-gobbling hero:

“We wanted to keep Pac-Man the same lovable guy he has always been, but (put him) in the 21st century. We (also) wanted to talk about real stories and … see how they can relate to our lives, being in high school and being a teenager. At the end of the day, it’s the story of a reluctant hero.”

While there was an old Pac-Man cartoon in the early ’80s, Avi Arad is going to modernize the technology as well as the story. Arad plans on using advanced computer technology and stereoscopic 3D so that children will have to use their imagination less. Now the new generation will be able to touch Pinky, Inky, Blinky and Clyde while they are invisibly floating in the air. Because that’s totally normal.

We think while Arad is at it, he should make Jack in the Box commercials 3-D and make the burgers appear on our coffee tables. That will really enhance our trip into Pac Land.

  • What do you think? Is a Pac-Man TV show in 3-D a good idea or bad idea? Can you think of any drinking games that involve blinking ghosts and eating cherries?

Remember the cartoon from the early ’80s? We don’t.
