Lead guitarist for [lastfm]Led Zeppelin[/lastfm], Jimmy Page has some explaining to do about his link to Zep’s hit track “Dazed and Confused.” Claiming the song is his, the original songwriter has launched a copyright infringement claim 40 years later.

If Page didn’t write it, who does the track belong to?trans Jimmy Page Dazed And Confused On Songs Origin

[lastfm]Jimmy Page[/lastfm] is being sued for copyright infringement by folk singer/songwriter [lastfm]Jake Holmes[/lastfm]. Holmes originally wrote “Dazed and Confused” in 1967, but isn’t credited on [lastfm]Led Zeppelin[/lastfm]’s 1969 recording of the track.  While on tour with the [lastfm]Yardbirds[/lastfm] in the same year, Page saw Holmes perform the song in Greenwich Village and was apparently so moved by it, he later recorded it with Zeppelin, with the credit going to him.

Since it’s been so long since its recording, Holmes can only claim damages and royalties from the last three years.  In the case, he’s asking for statutory damages of $150,000 per infringement, as well as actual damages and song profits. The total could add up around the $1 million mark as the case continues with Page yet to respond to the action.
