Lilith Fair Cancels Ten Dates, Loses Clarkson

Is it the lineup? Is it that [lastfm]Sarah McLachlan[/lastfm]’s new album hasn’t caught fire? Is it just a weaker-than-normal summer concert series? For some reason, Lilith Fair has had to cancel ten more concerts, bringing the number to 12 and severely altering the summer plans of some concertgoers! We’ve got more details after the jump.

The concert series celebrating women in music makes its way to the Los Angeles area this Saturday, with McLachlan alongside other notables such as [lastfm]Emmylou Harris[/lastfm] and [lastfm]Brandi Carlile[/lastfm]. But it won’t be making it to such cities as Salt Lake City, Houston, Dallas or Montreal after the announcement of the cancellations. That brings the total number of canceled tour stops to 12 for the festival.

Lilith co-founder Terry McBride addressed the issue, saying:

We are in the midst of one of the most challenging summer concert seasons with many tours being canceled outright.  Everyone involved with the tour would like to apologize to the fans and artists scheduled to play in these markets, and express appreciation for all the support for the festival’s return. Lilith remains the only tour of its kind, and we are confident that fans will be amazed by what each date has to offer.

There was no announced reason for the cancellations, but McBride’s quote would indicate that the “challenge” seems to be high ticket prices and low ticket sales.

Meanwhile, [lastfm]Kelly Clarkson[/lastfm] also announced on Tuesday that she’d be skipping her Lilith commitments, pulling out of a headlining slot on some of the tour dates, in order to complete work on her new album.

McLachlan and Harris recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to perform “Angel.”

Is this year’s Lilith lineup exciting enough to get you to the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater this weekend?
