cbsgarfield And The New Spiderman Is Andrew Garfield

Some guy named Andrew Garfield is technically more than just “some guy.” But not by much. Find more about the British actor and what the director of the Spiderman reboot had to say about him after the jump!

Garfield, who turns 27 in August, has few big credits to his name. He’s had guest starring roles in a few television shows, played Anton in Terry Gilliam‘s delightfully manic The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, and has wrapped on the role of Eduardo Saverin, one of the founders of Facebook, in the upcoming The Social Network.

That’s a decent-sized resume for a young up-and-coming actor, of course. But to take over the role of Spiderman in what will certainly be a big-budget reboot of the series?

“Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor’s work understand his extraordinary talents,” director Mark Webb said in a statement. “He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit, and humanity. Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker.”

We won’t know if Webb’s faith in Garfield is with good reason for a couple of years; the next Spiderman film isn’t due out until 2012.

Is Garfield a good choice for the film? And if not, who would you cast as Spiderman?
