cbsrem R.E.M. Readies 15th Album

The legendary [lastfm]R.E.M.[/lastfm] has seen their share of highs and lows in their career, spanning three decades and 14 albums. But Michael Stipe and company aren’t done yet. Check out the info on the next [lastfm]R.E.M.[/lastfm] album, which the band just finished recording, after the jump!

The album is currently without a title, but all signs are pointing to a release date in the spring of 2011. The record was started in Portland, but finished in Berlin at the famous Hansa Studios. Other albums recorded at Hansa: [lastfm]U2[/lastfm]’s Achtung Baby, [lastfm]Iggy Pop[/lastfm]’s The Idiot, [lastfm]David Bowie[/lastfm]’s Low and Heroes and [lastfm]Snow Patrol[/lastfm]’s A Hundred Million Suns.

While the band has not released track names, a “virtual postcard” about Berlin on [lastfm]R.E.M.[/lastfm]’s website indicates that the city might have had an influence on the music we’ll hear next spring:

“Really great to be here on many levels– one of the world’s great cities and only being here a little while (like anywhere) really lets one get a sense of what the town is really like– neighborhoods, people, customs and traditions, how people live and work and play here, not to mention why so many people visit here.”

The band also took enough time out from their recording schedule to rock out with [lastfm]Patti Smith[/lastfm] during a recent concert in Berlin. Check out a fan-made clip here:

On a scale of “[lastfm]Milli Vanilli[/lastfm] reunion” to “unearthed, brand new, never-heard-before [lastfm]Beatles[/lastfm] album,” how excited are you for the new [lastfm]R.E.M.[/lastfm] effort?
