John Lennons Face Could Be Coined

John Lennon‘s music may be worth a lot –both materially and emotionally–but is he made of money? Well, it could be the other way around soon. Money could be made out of…him. Or rather, his likeness.

Every year, the Royal Mint produces a new coin with the effigy of a Great Briton. This year, John Lennon has been put up to the vote. Find out who he is contending with and place your vote after the break!

On the Royal Mint website, the Great Briton’s coin collection is described as follows:

“The magnificent Great Britons Set is one of the most exciting collections that the Royal Mint has ever produced. With so many Great Britons who have excelled in the political, scientific and literary fields, the Royal Mint carefully chose a selection of some of the greatest men and women in British history to remember and immortalise on the ‘Great Britons’ coinage.”

The choices for the next Great Briton coin this year also include Jane Austen, Douglas Bader, Sir Walter Raleigh, Emmeline Pankhurst and John Logie Baird.

Past faces on the coin include:

Sir Winston Churchill, Queen Elizabeth I, Bobby Moore, Queen Victoria, Charles Darwin, Sir Isaac Newton, Isambard Kingdom Brunel, William Shakespeare, Robert Falcon Scott, Florence Nightingale, Charles Dickens, Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, Captain James Cook, Sir Alexander Fleming, Diana, Princess of Wales, Sir Edward Elgar, 1st Viscount Montgomery, King Henry VIII, Sir Christopher Wren, Sir Francis Drake, John Constable, Oliver Cromwell and Sir Alexander Graham Bell.

If John Lennon wins, he will obviously be in very illustrative company! And from the looks of it, one of the first contemporary British musicians.

You don’t have to be a citizen of the United Kingdom to vote for the engraving of this Fab Four wunderkind. Cast your vote here!

Oh, and you can vote for whomever you want. We won’t send the Royal Guard after you.

But, c’mon. How can you not vote for John Lennon after watching this beautiful video?
