robert plant Robert Plants Band Of Joy Do The Angel Dance

As if Robert Plant didn’t have enough side projects or spin-off bands, he announces the revival of his 60s extracurricular outfit, Band of Joy. Armed with a new superstar line up of musicians, [lastfm]Band of Joy [/lastfm] conjures up a jolt of rockabilly attitude in their rootsy remakes of classic hits.

Their debut self-titled album doesn’t hit stores until September 14th, but you can get a taste of their classic rock meets twang sound on their first single “Angel Dance.”

The original short-lived [lastfm]Band of Joy[/lastfm] disbanded in the late 60s, but the former [lastfm]Led Zeppelin[/lastfm] frontman, [lastfm]Robert Plant[/lastfm], revived the experimental blues group with an all new line up and a modern-day makeover of classic roots hits including [lastfm]Townes Van Zandt[/lastfm]’s “Harms Swift Way” and [lastfm]Los Lobos[/lastfm]’ “Angel Dance,” which is the first single from the album.

Plant is no stranger to the bluesy-twang sound, after he teamed up with bluegrass musician [lastfm]Alison Krauss [/lastfm] for their Grammy winning album Raising Sand.  He returns with the same rootsy wails on Band of Joy and adding a groovy twist. Check out the “jugband” sound of “Angel Dance” below and imagine you’re a long train ride to nowhere.
