U2’s Spider-Man Musical Gets Opening Date

bonoedge U2s Spider Man Musical Gets Opening Date

I know you’ve been dying of anticipation to see the Broadway-adapted Spider-Man musical swing into live action — who doesn’t want to see Spider-Man and the Green Goblin break out into a song battle of threatening jazz hands? — and backed by the melodies and lyrics written by [lastfm]Bono[/lastfm] and The Edge of [lastfm]U2[/lastfm], the rock-opera-comic musical is sure to make “John Jameson” headlines look weak on opening night.

Originally set to open in February 2010, the musical was forced to shut down production because of “unexpected cash flow problems” (or in other words, bankruptcy…), causing to push back the opening night of Spider-man: Turn Off the Dark. But after solving budgetary problems and replacing main characters after Evan Rachel Wood and Alan Cumming bailed on the project, the Spidey musical is all ready for its preview in the winter.

Previewing in November, the Spider-Man musical promises to capture all the intense action-filled drama from the movie series on stage while peppering in the musical stylings of Bono and The Edge. The official opening night is on December 21st with actress Jennifer Damiano portraying Mary Jane Watson, Patrick Page will play both Norman Osborn and the villain Green Goblin and Reeve Carney stepping into the red ‘n’ blue spandex uniform as Peter Parker/Spidey.

Tickets go on sale to the general public in September. We’re unsure how the well-known comic will play out on Broadway, but it’s likely audiences won’t be let down by the music penned by the global icons of [lastfm]U2[/lastfm]. I mean, it’s no [lastfm]Nickelback[/lastfm], but it’ll get the job done.
