cbsflea Flea, & Yeah Yeah Yeahs on Im Here Soundtrack

Movie director Spike Jonze knows a bit about music. He got his start in music videos, helming some of the classic clips of the 1990s, including “Cannonball” by [lastfm]The Breeders[/lastfm] and “Sabotage” by the [lastfm]Beastie Boys[/lastfm]. So it shouldn’t be a surprise that the upcoming soundtrack to Jonze’s short film, I’m Here, features heavy hitters like [lastfm]Flea[/lastfm] from [lastfm]Red Hot Chili Peppers[/lastfm] and [lastfm]Nick Zinner[/lastfm] from the [lastfm]Yeah Yeah Yeahs[/lastfm].

The duo collaborate with [lastfm]ASKA[/lastfm] on “There Are Many Of Us” and with [lastfm]Of Montreal[/lastfm] on “The Past Is A Grotesque Animal,” which does not sound like a song of which PETA would approve.

Other bands on the hipster friendly soundtrack include [lastfm]Animal Collective[/lastfm], [lastfm]Sleigh Bells[/lastfm], and [lastfm]Girls[/lastfm]. Girls, the band. Not just random members of the gender.

I’m Here marks Jonze’s return to our childhood the works of Shel Silverstein; it’s based on his book “The Giving Tree.” Jonze, however, has turned it into a story about robots. Yep. Robots. You can check out the film online at

And now, for no reason other than the flimsy Jonze tie-in and our crush on the Deal sisters, here’s “Cannonball.”
