cbsstarwars Star Wars Coming To Blu Ray; Geeks Declare New National Holiday

It’s amazing, in some ways, that it’s taken this long for the Star Wars films – all six of them – to make it to Blu-Ray, the home video system of choice for geeks everywhere.

But it will take until the fall of 2011 for fans of the original trilogy, not to mention those who can tolerate the prequels, as well, to get a chance to watch them in full high-definition in their own homes.

No less an authority on the films than George Lucas himself made the announcement during an interview with Jon Stewart at Star Wars Celebration V.

“We’ve been wanting to do it as soon as we possibly could, but we just wanted to do it when enough people would be able to buy it and see it,” Lucas said about waiting. “We’ve been working on them for quite a while, but still, there are pipelines. Unfortunately, the recent releases get priority over what we call the classic versions of things.”

The releases will feature extras as well, including a deleted scene of Luke Skywalker building a new lightsaber. No word as to any other possibilities, like…

Other than killing Jar Jar, what else would you like to see?
