Actor/crazyman Joaquin Phoenix remains an inhabitant on Earth despite embarking on a year long crusade to become a hip-hop artist, nearly flushing away his career as an actor in the process.

The I’m Still Here trailer chronicles the trials and tribulations of his attempt to make it in hiphop.  Is this some sort of brilliant Borat scheme to reel people into watching his movie or has Phoenix really lost his marbles?  Watch the teaser below and decide for yourself.

This entertaining one minute teaser trailer gives us a glimpse of the journey taken by Joaquin Phoenix. The clips are all things that are synonymous with Hollywood players:  attending swank Hollywood parties, being snapped by paparazzi at the Two Lovers premiere, limousine rides, and hugging it out with [lastfm]P. Ditty[/lastfm].

As “Joaquin Phoenix,” flashes across the screen, we see Phoenix in times of distress; staring sadly out of window with his pregnant man belly, wrestling someone on a motel bed, confronting an audience member, and being dragged away from one of his own performances.

The narration concludes with:

Then you understand that it was at your lowest that you were closest to God. Life’s a journey that goes round and round and the end is closest to the beginning.  So it’s change you need.  Relish the journey.

The last shots include Phoenix seeking the “change” he needs by seeking salvation at a church and waiting in a room before taking the stage.

  • What do you think? Is this an extreme case of method acting or an actor just lashing out against his fame? And was that Admiral Adama from Battlestar Galactica providing the voice over narration?
