Auteur indie director Jim Jarmusch (Coffee and Cigarettes, Broken Flowers) has been personally asked by [lastfm]The Stooges[/lastfm] front man [lastfm]Iggy Pop[/lastfm] to direct a documentary of the iconic band.  One can expect that Jarmusch will give us an exclusive look into the life of Iggy Pop and the adrenaline fueled concert footage that all of us Stooges fans crave.

There is no doubt that Jim Jarmusch is a fan of the eternally shirtless lead singer; the director cast Iggy Pop in his 1995 cult film Dead Man with Johnny Depp.  Jarmusch is also the curator of New York’s All Tomorrow’s Parties festival in which The Stooges will be performing their classic album, “Raw Power” in its entirety.  In an interview with Pitchfork, the director said of his documentary:

It’s going to take a few years. There’s no rush on it, but it’s something that Iggy asked me to do.

Jarmusch is anticipating the Stooges performance, saying:

There’s a rule in my household that if Iggy is playing anywhere within 90 miles, we go.  I just saw the Stooges in London a couple months ago with James Williamson.

Below is a performance of Iggy & The Stooges performing “The Passenger.”  Is Iggy under the influence of something or is Iggy just being his crazy self?  You decide.
