cbsu27 U2: Heading Back To The Clubs?

It’s okay. Be honest. Pop was not [lastfm]U2[/lastfm]’s finest hour, was it? The somewhat-cheesy, repetitive thump-thump-thump that was infecting Europe’s dance halls made it into tracks like “Discotheque” and “Do You Feel Loved?” and took the band one step past it’s moodier, but still electronica-influenced Zooropa. It might have been a step too far, and it certainly did not translate well live to the “PopMart” tour (pictured above).

Now, the band might be heading back into the club.

According to [lastfm]Bono[/lastfm], along with their next album Songs of Ascent, another “traditional rock” record and the Spiderman musical, [lastfm]U2[/lastfm] is also working on a “club-sounding” album.

However, with all that on the plate, it might be more likely that there are club-sounding tracks on the next [lastfm]U2[/lastfm] record, or even a return to b-side remixes like the band had throughout the 90s.

If there’s anyone who can pull it off, it might be [lastfm]U2[/lastfm]. They have the money to bring in the best in the business (how about a [lastfm]U2[/lastfm]/[lastfm]Deadmau5 [/lastfm]collab? Or [lastfm]U2[/lastfm]/[lastfm]Tiesto[/lastfm]?), and the highest peaks of Pop and Zooropa were pretty great.

Just keep the boys out of the Village People outfits, please. They’re getting a little too old for that.
