KISS at Epicenter 2010

(Review written by Blackout)

I’m only 24 years old, so I don’t know a whole lot about [lastfm]KISS[/lastfm], but after their headlining performance tonight at Epicenter Twenty-Ten, my perspective of them changed entirely. Gnarly pyrotechnics, excellent stage presence, and a shout out to the Armed Forces and thousands of people watching online made me realize why these guys are one of the hugest bands ever.

At the end of “Firehouse,” [lastfm]Tommy Thayer[/lastfm]┬ácame out with a burning torch and started waving it around. “We were gonna play for two and half hours, but we have a curfew…but that doesn’t mean it won’t be a crazy night!” the band exclaimed as they went straight into their song “Crazy Crazy Nights.”

Then they got into one of their more memorable hits, “Doctor Love.” Every time I hear that song I think of Dr. Pepper and a mini version of KISS playing on stage. They played it to perfection and got into their next song, “Shock Me.” The guitarist ended the song going into a crazy solo that had him playing his instrument behind his head. All of a sudden, his guitar is being lifted off into the abyss of the top of the stage.

KISS set list!

There were some crazy guitar and drum solos all throughout their performance. Mix that with fireworks exploding out of their guitars and the floating platforms and you get one hell of a show. [lastfm]Gene Simmons[/lastfm]’ tongue (which also appeared covered in blood during the encore) was a highlight as usual and the legendary musicians put a close on the first night.

Quite a few people took off after Eminem, but there was still a massive amount of KISS faithful that stuck around til the wee hours of Epicenter. What a great way to end day 1 of Epicenter….see you guys tomorrow!
