23 Years Later, The Cars Reunite For New Album

Last week, [lastfm]The Cars[/lastfm] took to their Facebook page and revealed a 73-second sample of a brand new, unreleased track called “Blue Tip.”

Today, Billboard secured the information from The Cars frontman, Ric Ocasek – the band is back together!

The 1980’s were a brilliant time in the evolution of man. Neon greens, leg warmers, MTV, and The Cars ruled the pop music scene. Similar to [lastfm]The Steve Miller Band[/lastfm], The Cars first hit the music scene in the late-70’s yet didn’t gain full-fledged popularity until the 80’s. Looking back, their music seems to be ahead of their time; combining keyboard-heavy riffs with strong rhythmic explorations, The Cars were able to create pop-music hits like “Just What I Needed”, “Best Friend’s Girl”, “Let the Good Times Roll”, and “Let’s Go.”

In 1988, The Cars split. Most of the band members attempted solo careers, but Ocasek found work as a producer, crafting distinct sound for bands like [lastfm]Weezer[/lastfm], [lastfm]No Doubt[/lastfm], and even [lastfm]Guided By Voices[/lastfm].

Now, 23 years after the split, The Cars are back! Now reunited and ready to record, the bands hopes they will be able to support their effort with a tour. If The Cars came to your hometown, would you be there?
