Few bands ever get to enjoy the feeling of watching their album move up the charts, or hearing their single played on the radio. In the fickle world of popular music, even fewer bands get to enjoy that feeling a second time. And only a very small number of artists – the best of the best – are allowed to return to that well time and again, enjoying a long career with strings of hits. [lastfm]Duran Duran[/lastfm] are members of that rarest of clubs, surviving the 80s, 90s and into the new millennium with their integrity and popularity intact.
As their new album All You Need Is Now began its own climb up the charts, bandmates [lastfm]Nick Rhodes[/lastfm] and [lastfm]Simon Le Bon[/lastfm] dropped by the Street Date studios for a warm chat and a look back at their 30+ year career.

Helmed by it-producer [lastfm]Mark Ronson[/lastfm], All You Need Is Now harkens back to [lastfm]Duran Duran[/lastfm]’s wild days in the 1980s, while carefully avoiding the “retro 80s” trap that many current artists are falling into. Key guest spots from [lastfm]Ana Matronic[/lastfm] and [lastfm]Kelis[/lastfm] reinforce Duran Duran’s relevance to the world of dance music, now enjoying a major resurgence in the U.S. In this first clip, Le Bon and Rhodes discuss working with Ronson, Kelis and others while creating the new album.

Here’s the track listing for All You Need Is Now:

1. “All You Need Is Now”
2. “Blame the Machines”
3. “Being Followed”
4. “Leave a Light On”
5. “Safe (In the Heat of the Moment)” (featuring [lastfm]Ana Matronic[/lastfm])
6. “Girl Panic!”
7. “The Man Who Stole a Leopard” (featuring [lastfm]Kelis[/lastfm])
8. “Runway Runaway”
9. “Before the Rain”

[lastfm]Duran Duran[/lastfm] are one of those rarest of musical entities: a band that has navigated fame, success, lineup changes and controversy and is still on top 30+ years into their career. We asked Nick and Simon where they find inspiration and motivation at this point in their career, and how they plan to work the new songs into their live show. Their answers were candid and offered clues to the secrets behind their longevity. And, wait a minute, did they just drop hints about a 2011 [lastfm]Duran Duran[/lastfm] world tour?
