“[H]ow do you make someone stronger than the strongest person? It finally came to me: Don’t make him human — make him a god.”
– Stan Lee

From the ancient folklore of the Norse people and the mind of comic book icon Stan Lee comes the mighty Thor. Now we at Jack realized that the general public seems to know very little about Thor’s history. For some reason he doesn’t seem all that popular compared to heroes like Spider-Man, apparently we’d rather our superheroes get their powers from spider bites instead of something cool like say a GIANT FREAKING HAMMER THAT CAN CONTROL LIGHTING!!

Thor has been on some crazy adventures since his inception in 1962. In the year 1000 CE he got in a fight with HERCULES. In 1942, Hitler tried to trick Thor into killed Joseph Stalin, but Thor figured out the truth before it was too late, because he can’t be fooled that easily. He’s battled monsters and saved the world more times than we can count, and we at Jack are eager to see what Paramount has in store for us.

We’re sure there are some of you out there who’d like to go into this movie with a blank slate, but for those of you who’d like to know a bit more about this hardcore superhero, click on for a quick crash course on Thor.

These facts are based upon the Marvel comics. Some facts may or may not have been changed during Hollywood’s adaptation, but you’ll have to see it for yourself to find out.

  • Thor’s full name is Thor Odinson. As his name implies, he is the son of Odin (the big dog of Norse mythology). His mother is Gaea, the spirit of the Earth.
  • Thor has a half-brother named Loki. Loki is the Trickster God of Norse mythology and is generally perceived as a jerk.
  • To teach his son humility, Odin banishes Thor to live among the humans as Doctor Donald Blake.
  • Thor’s source of power is his hammer, Mjolnir.
  • Mjolnir can only be wielded by someone the hammer deems worthy.
  • Mjolnir is so powerful it can even damage adamantium, the impenetrable metal that Wolverine’s skeleton is made of.
  • Thor is affiliated with only one superhero group – The Avengers
  • Thor cannot actually fly – he only makes it appear that way by throwing his hammer really hard then hanging onto it.
