The Ides Of March – Top 7 St. Ides Malt Liquor Commercials

Beware the Ides of March,” wrote Shakespeare, and history has proved him right. According to Eutropius, Julius Caesar was stabbed 23 times by a group of 60 or more, and who are we to dispute him?

While most of us won’t be the victim on an assassination plot today, there is still something we must be wary of – St. Ides Malt Liquor.  The following is a list of the Top 7 St. Ides commercials of all time.

And yes, the city of Los Angeles is well represented.

7. DJ Pooh

Coming in at number seven is DJ Pooh’s commercial.  You may remember Pooh as “Red” from the hit comedy “Friday.”

What’s great about this commercial is that it illustrates that even thinking about St. Ides can impair your driving.

6. Ice Cube

At number six is one of two spots featuring Ice Cube.  This one seems like it’s straight out of the Jason Bourne trilogy.  Not only that, but we get to see Cube’s fantastic acting chops.

5. Biggie Smalls

This commercial may be the most cinematically satisfying of the entire list.

The contrasting use of black and white film versus color are reminiscent of the classic The Wizard of Oz, and such Oscar-winning contemporary movies such as The Artist and Schindler’s List.

Regale in its beauty…

4. Tupac and Snoop Dogg

This commercial for St. Ides Special Brew takes one back to the days when both Tupac and Snoop Dogg were signed to Death Row Records.

RIP Tupac, RIP.

3. Wu Tang Clan

Method Man, Raekwon, and Ghostface Killah ALL rap in this St. Ides commercial?  That’s impressive, seeing as that doesn’t even happen at a Wu-Tang Clan concert.  I can attest to this from personal experience.

2. Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg

As any Los Angeles resident can tell you, a typical day usually involve you cruising the streets, hitting some switch, and watching your car transform into a bottle of malt liquor to be consumed by Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg.

This is probably just some news footage that was shot by CBS 2, as reported on by Paul Magers.

1. Ice Cube

Ice Cube claims the top spot largely due to this lyric “Get your girl in the mood quicker, get your jimmy thicker, with St. Ides Malt Liquor.” True, many historians have attributed this to the bard Shakespeare, but they are wrong – Ice Cube deserves all the credit.
