It’s one of the biggest truisms in sports- Eight Seeds always lose to One Seeds, except, of course, when they don’t.  Looks like the second part of that saying came into effect when the Kings beat the Canucks 2-1 last night in Vancouver.

Yeah, things looked decent for the Canucks for the first 2 periods.  There they were, holding on to a 1-0 lead, looking like they were going to force the series back to Los Angeles for a game six.  Then, boom, Brad Richardson would score at 3:21 in the third to tie the score, and eventually send it to overtime.

In overtime, Jarret Stoll would score to send the Kings on to the second round, where they’ll face off against the second seeded St. Louis Blues, cause the NHL is weird and has to reseed teams to make strange, new matchups after the first round.

Guess the Canucks must have forgotten about the other truism in sports- once a team goes up 3-0 in a seven game series, they always win.  Except, of course, when they don’t.  The second part of that phrase wasn’t needed this time.

So, lastly, did the country that cursed us with Nickelback riot after the Canuck loss?  Sadly, the answer is no.
