Yesterday we wrote that the final “Best Viral Video of the Year” list before the Mayan Apocalypse was headlined by Psy’s “Gangnam Style,” and how humanity had until the end of the work week to somehow redeem itself.

Who knew that possible redemption would bear the name of something you might find on a, shall we say, less savory, adult website?

We’re talking, of course, about “The Montreal Eagle,” or “The Golden Eagle,” depending on where you first encountered this (most likely) last viral video of the year.

Formally titled, “Golden Eagle Snatchers Kid” by the author, MrNuclearCat, the incredible video follows an eagle flying above the heads of park-goers in Montreal before swooping down on a toddler and attempting to serve itself lunch. And yes, the eagle fails; the child is safe.

But the real story, excuse me, stories, here are A.) whether this video is even real, and B.) the fact that it’s garnered nearly 3 million views despite barely going up yesterday.

Well the video has already been confirmed by Centre NAD in Montreal as a school project by students taking their 3D animation course. It’s a heck of a fake though, good enough to spark a worldwide phenomenon in less than 24 hours.

And that, my friends, is how we will end the 2012 season of viral videos. Let’s face it; a fake eagle is better than riding a fake horse.
