When we heard about the news of J.J. Abrams directing the next Star Wars, the first thought to enter our collective skulls was Ghostbusters. Remember this scene?

Never cross the streams! It was a simple yet profound rule to live life by. Some things should always be kept separate, things like Church and State, dogs and chocolate, and of course, Star Trek and Star Wars.

The two pillars of science fiction coexisted peacefully by staying out of each other’s business. Each had their own style, identity, and culture.

Trekkies has things like the transporter, warp drives, and phasers. Star Wars has the force, light speed, and light sabers. And at the risk of overgeneralizing, for many diehard  fans, you were either a Trekkie or a Star Wars fanboy.

And yet, as we learned from this scene, sometimes you need to break the rules to get the results you want. (Hey JACK? How many movies can you squeeze into one article?)

Enter J.J. Abrams. Director of the Star Trek reboots (as well as the hit TV series Lost among others), he brought a renewed sense of storytelling combined with fast paced action that breathed new life into the aging franchise.

The question is, will he do the same with Star Wars?

Ever since the sale of Lucasfilm to Disney and the announcement of three new Star Wars movies, fans have been wondering who would take the reins in the new era. Now that the question is answered, let’s see if Abrams can deliver once again.
