With the band Incubus on hiatus, lead singer Brandon Boyd has finished recording a new solo album with the help of revered rock producer Brendan O’Brien (My Chemical Romance, the Killers, Pearl Jam) that he hopes to release this summer.

“I’m ready for it to come out now but there is still all this logistical stuff that has to take place before it can come out,” Boyd told Billboard. “That part kind of sucks.

“It’s awesome,” he continued when asked about the sound of the still-untitled solo record, the follow-up to 2010 album The Wild Trapeze. “When you hear it, you’ll probably be reminded of sailors riding unicorns and unicorns farting beautiful gift making elves and things like that…rainbows, pots of gold… stuff like that.”

The singer added that he’ll likely hit the road for some solo dates following the album’s release, promising that “I’ll open for anybody. I’ll play for anybody… whoever will have me.”

Boyd has also been working on an art book created the same time as the record, saying that the two projects “are a nice accompaniment to each other.”

In regards to his band mates, Boyd insisted that they’re all “keeping busy” during the Incubus hiatus.

“I know that Chris Kilmore has been doing a lot of DJ gigs and has been making a name for himself doing so,” he explained. “Mike Einziger just scored an independent film that’s coming out this week I think. Ben Kenney is making another solo record on the east coast.”

Boyd recently showed up alongside such celebrities as Naomi Watts, Alice Cooper, and event co-chairs Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner in West Hollywood to support the John Varvatos 10th Annual Stuart House Benefit, a program at the Rape Treatment Center at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center that helps sexually abused children.
