We understand writing a review for your favorite coffee shop, blow out artist, and pet psychic on Yelp, but prison? It’s assumed that all of those get one-star, generally because being in one is intentionally supposed to blow. So, what’s the point?

A recent article in the Washington Post highlighted how some Yelp reviewers are using the infamous internet review system to air their dirty orange jumpsuits and dish on how they were treated despicably in certain facilities.

Even people who aren’t inmates are getting in on the action. Local defense lawyer Robert Miller told the Post that he started reviewing jails and prisons to alleviate boredom and “kill time” while he waited for his clients.

“But I think the reviews are actually helpful for bail bondsmen, attorneys, family members — a lot of people, actually.”

Here are some of our favorite one-liners from Yelp reviews of local prisons, jails, and detention centers.

Twin Towers Correctional Facility:

Richard A: “The only food we were given were peanut butter and jelly sandwhiches and cookies.” He gave the facility one star.

L.A County Jail:

Mr. L: “DO: Act crazy, workout, pray, eat, sleep with one eye open, hide toilet paper from your roommates.” He gave the facility one star.

West Hollywood Jail:

DW: “If you do visit our fair city, we certainly would prefer and suggest that you stay at one of the famous hotels on the Sunset Strip, or even down the street at the Ramada Inn.  But if you find yourself needing a jail, you could do much worse than the West Hollywood Jail.” They gave the facility five stars.

Men’s Central Jail:

Sahararavetent O.: “Don’t get shanked homes/This is the most scanless jail in LA.” He gave the facility one star.

And if you want to read some emotional Bukowski-esque prose, check out Anthony G’s one-star review of the Los Angeles County Century Regional Detention Facility.

Have you been to prison or jail? Would you Yelp about the experience?
