Journey Gets More Platinum Records Thanks To New Streaming Rules

Journey didn’t stop believing and now that the music industry has finally caught up with the consumers, the artists are finally benefiting.

Recently, the RIAA changed the rules by allow streaming to be factored into sales certifications. This is one of the most dramatic changes that has happened in the music industry since the implementaion of the Neilson Sound Scan in the early ’90s.

This new method has impacted many older artists including Kansas and Journey; Journey’s song “Don’t Stop Believin'” has been certified platinum five times because of the change.

The new format takes into account many digital platforms, including free ones like Youtube, Vevo, Spotify, and Pandora.

These streams might not impact the artist financially as much, but they do count to more recognition. Hopefully in the future, there will be a more effective way to monetize this temporal fame.

And keep bands like Journey creating and performing songs that we want to sing for years to come.
