Today’s One Hit Wonder is…Cult of Personality by Living Colour

“Cult of Personality” was the first single off Living Colour’s debut album in 1988, Vivid. The song samples speeches from John F. Kennedy and Franklin D. Roosevelt. They also mention Mussolini, Stalin, and Ghandi, so uh, guess they are all over the map when it comes to political leaders, yeah? The song was rated number #69 on VH1’s “100 Greatest Hard Rock Songs of All Time,” which, of course, begs the question, “The hell business does VH1 have commenting on Hard Rock?!?” The song is also featured in Guitar Hero III, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and is the theme music for wrestler C.M. Punk in WWE. So, yay Living Colour!

Tune in Monday for another One Hit Wonder. No guarantees that it’s theme song from “The Neverending Story,” but, maybe it is.
