William Shatner Making Prog Album With Steve Vai and Mick Jones

Star Trek god, William Shatner, has had a musical career almost as long as he’s been acting. In 1968, the sci-fi icon released an album called The Transformed Man that had Shakespeare readings combined with songs at the time by The Beatles, Bob Dylan, and more.

The album made him popular for what many people consider parody versions of songs, but Captain James T Kirk considers himself to be a legit musician and the 82-year-old is now working on a prog-rock album with Steve Vai and Mick Jones called Ponder The Mystery. Of the album, Shatner says it’s “quite possibly the most creative thing” he’s ever done and that it’s about themes like “ageing, depression, love, and beauty.”

Ponder the Mystery will be Shatner’s fourth studio album. In his last journey into the world of music, Shatner released an album called Seeking Major Tom in 2011 that featured covers from artists like David Bowie, Elton John, U2, and Queen.
