Meanwhile In Southern California: Drought Could Ruin Taste Of Cali Beers

By Nadia Noir

Water, water, everywhere, but none of it for beer. If you’ve driven around SoCal recently, you’ve probably noticed the signs that say we’re in a drought and to save water.

Well, you might want to take heed and stop taking 7-hour showers because droughts mean that local beer breweries might have to opt for local groundwater that isn’t as tasty.

According to KPCC (via LAist), beer brewers like those at Lagunitas are afraid they’ll have to switch the mineral-heavy well water.

The head brewer there likened it to “brewing with Alka-Seltzer” and will make it so the beer might taste like drinking a “popsicle stick.”

What’s next for the future of beer brewing if we go into a severe drought? Will we have to (gasp) start drinking hard booze or wine?

Oh, the humanity.
