The pairing of New Order‘s Bernard Sumner and punk rock icon Iggy Pop seems like something that would have happened at CBGB’s circa early ’80s, but the amazing combo happened last night at the 24th annual Tibet House Benefit at Carnegie Hall. Not quite as druggy and punky as thirty plus years ago, but definitely awesome.

Iggy Pop came onstage with New Order to perform Joy Division‘s iconic hit “Love Will Tear Us Apart.” For the “first time ever,” they also played a new New Order song called “Californian Grass” which wasn’t half bad.

We also heard that Patti Smith did a cover of Lou Reed‘s “Perfect Day.” We need a video of that ASAP. Don’t keep us hangin’ on.
