Chocolate connoisseurs might be biting into sweet concoctions that are dark chocolate only, or have Mexican spices, bacon, or wasabi peas, but when we want old-school comfort chocolate, we go straight for the milky stuff.

Some like-minded foodie decided that today would be National Milk Chocolate day. To celebrate we’ve made a list of our favorite old-school and chocolate-centric commercials from the ’60s and beyond.

Who doesn’t love an absurd animal plotline or a cheesy ’80s jingle to go along with their mid-day chocolate break?

Nestle Hot Chocolate (1984)

Who else was jealous that they had hot chocolate waiting for them at home?

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups (’80s)

When you’re jammin’ out on your Walkman and you’re munchin’ out on your favorite treat–BAM–you run into a hottie and you get your chocolate in her peanut butter. Magic ensues.

Snickers (2011)

Note to all surfers: Humans taste better to sharks after eating Snickers Peanut Butter Squared.

Cadburys (2007)

While this ad had no chocolate actually featured in it, there’s nothing cooler than a giant gorilla version of Phil Collins playing the drums.

Hershey’s Chocolate Milk (’80s)

You mean to tell us chocolate milk doesn’t come from a chocolate cow on a chocolate farm?

Kit Kat (1988)

Gimme a break. You know you have this jingle stuck in your head now.

Almond Joy and Mounds (1980)

Sometimes you feel like a nut…sometimes you don’t.

Tootsie Pop (1969)

The world may never know how many licks it takes to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop…just like they probably never saw the full version of this commercial which includes a dopey cow, a bitey fox, and a lazy turtle.

Twix (’80s)

Oh yeah? Everything in the ’80s had to have that Ferris Bueller-esque vibe and an appropriately-placed “chick-a-chick-ahhh.”

Payday (’80s)

It takes a lot of peanuts to make a Payday candy bar. Maybe that’s why we never see them around anymore. Candy makers don’t want to shell out more for peanuts.
