We’re disappointed, too. There’s no flying cars and we haven’t sent kittens to Mars yet, but apparently, you can tag up Mars, or claim Mars, or just let Martians know about your existence by sending your name to Mars via a microchip.
For those that register between now and October 31st, NASA will put all your pertinent info, including where you live and your email address, into a microchip that they will take when them on the Orion Spacecraft. For cheapos out there, this isn’t like buying a star; it’s totally free.
According to Geek, after you go to Mars and orbit the Earth twice before landing in the Pacific Ocean, you’ll also be included in other exploratory missions.
They are calling the registration a “boarding pass” and this pass is embeddable. Get it here.
