Since the passing of “California’s Gold” host Huell Howser in January 2013, Southern California natives have been missing the enthusiastic TV host who introduced us to the fun, unique and inspiring treasures the Golden State has to offer.

Now this Thanksgiving, fans will get the story behind the famed TV host’s life and career in a special documentary airing on KCET, the home of “California’s Gold.” Say it together now, “that’s amazing!”

According to LAist, KCET will air a documentary titled “A Golden State of Mind: The Storytelling Genius Of Huell Howser” on Nov. 27 at 8 p.m. and again at 9:30 p.m. According to KCET’s website, the doc “explores how Howser’s shows were filmed and edited, and includes interviews with his close friends, colleagues, and production team members about his offbeat, yet legendary adventures.”

The documentary, produced by Chapman University’s film professor Jeff Swimmer, also gives a “behind-the-scenes look at the amazing world of Huell Howser and his iconic TV series ‘California’s Gold,’ ‘Visiting,’ and ‘Road Trip’.”

KCET is on channel 28.1 on basic television, and 28 on DirecTV, Dish Network and AT&T U-verse, notes LAist.
