San Fernando Valley residents woke up Friday to a massive dust cloud above their homes.

The cloud – which was similar in appearance to wildfire ash and smoke – was reported by residents in Sylmar, Lake View Terrace, and North Hills.

An air quality management official said as of midday, no “fine particulate levels exceeding health standards” were found anywhere in the region except possibly in the Indio area.

A general wind/dust advisory may be issued later, officials said.

According to the National Weather Service, the dust cloud was linked to the recent Sand Fire and was visible by satellite from Malibu to the Santa Barbara coast.
