Goat Named Lincoln Becomes Town Mayor

March 12, 2019

The votes are in, and one town’s newest mayor beat out a real dog of a candidate- literally.

Meet Lincoln- he’s a three-year-old Nubian goat who was just elected to lead Fair Haven, Vermont. He won over Sammie, the dog, by just two by just two votes.

Town Manager Joe Gunther opened the polls for the animal election because the town didn’t have a human mayor in the first place. It was also a way to help fundraise a new school playground. For a $5 donation residents could nominate pets for mayoral office.

Once Lincoln’s sworn in, he’ll serve a one-year term, and one of his major duties will be marching in the Memorial Day parade.
