Many neighborhoods suffer from illegal dumping. Whether it takes the form of thoughtless discarding of rubbish, tossing out of old mattresses and worn-out tires, or pouring out of dirty motor oil and household trash into storm drains, illegal dumping is a form of pollution. It threatens the health and safety of residents, reduces property values and drives away new employers, customers and potential home buyers and renters.

Los Angeles County works with local waste haulers to provide options for residents to dispose of bulky materials and help prevent illegal dumping.  Here are a few options residents in the unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County can take advantage of and help their communities remain clean and beautiful.

Annual Curbside Clean up Events

Your local waste hauler in conjunction with the County of Los Angeles conducts a “Clean-up Event” in your area once a year to collect bulky items, excess solid waste, up to two (2) passenger car or pickup truck tires, and certain electronic devices, all free of charge.  Your local waste hauler will notify you of the annual Clean-Up Event at least two weeks in advance or you can contact 1-888-CLEAN LA to learn when the next event will take place in your area.

On-Call Bulky Item Pick-ups

Residents of Unincorporated Los Angeles County who subscribe to trash collection services can request up to two (2) pickups of bulky items per year from their waste hauler at no charge.  Collections should be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance of the next trash collection day, and items will be collected on the next trash collection day.  Examples of bulky items include discarded furniture (such as chairs, sofas, mattresses, box springs, and rugs); appliances (such as refrigerators, range, washers, dryers, water heaters, dishwashers, plumbing, and other similar items).  Call your local waste hauler to schedule your bulky item collection or contact 1-888-CLEAN LA to learn more.

On-Call Pickups of Certain Electronic Devices

Local waste haulers servicing the Unincorporated Los Angeles County also offers pickups of electronic devices, free of charge.  Items accepted include cathode ray tube (CRT) devices (including televisions and computer monitors); LCD devices (desktop monitors, laptop computers and televisions); plasma televisions.  To schedule a collection, simply call your local waste hauler at least 24 hours before your regular trash collection day.  For more information call 1-888-CLEAN LA.
